(Cannes) May 16, 2000 - Troma Entertainment, the world's
most romantic independent film studio, continues to wrap Cannes
up in its love with The Best of TromaDance. This special event
in the luxurious Troma Love Chapel (a.k.a. Suites 264 & 265
of the Carlton Hotel) will present highlights from Troma's day-long
independent film festival held in Park City, Utah, this past
January.
Troma inaugurated TromaDance as the first Film
Festival devoted exclusively to filmmakers and fans. There are
no V.I.P. reservations, no charge to filmmakers to submit their
films, and entrance to the screenings is free to the public.
Lloyd Kaufman, president of Troma Entertainment and founder
of TromaDance, says, "I believe films are meant to be seen,
especially when it comes to new filmmakers. Art is for the people!
After selling a kidney on the black-market to complete a short
film, it is simply too cruel to charge an additional entry fee
to have your film judged."
While there are no prizes or competition at
TromaDance, The Best of TromaDance provides a sample of some
of the excellent work that was presented in January. These films
show a widely diverse range of subject matter and all dovetail
with Troma's "All the Love You Cannes" theme. They include Simon
Barrett's The Nothing Deal, a romantic look at a drug
deal gone awry; Gabe Friedman's heart-warming tale of a father's
love, The Teeth That Bind; and Cyrus Helf's self-explanatory
Zitlover.
The Best of TromaDance screens at 6 PM tonight
at a private cocktail party in Troma's Love Chapel, Suites 264
& 265 of the Carlton Hotel. Admission is on a first-come, first-serve
basis.
