In a recent review, Variety said Troma's Fag Hag, "strikes…a
vintage John Waters tone" and that it is "a rollicking,
trashy and…clever ode to the eternal search for validation".
Chalk this up to the myriad praise that has been given
this "ultra-indie gay fest", which was also acclaimed
by LA Weekly as an "assault to the senses and Outfest as containing
"Uproarious musical numbers".
Fag Hag is the touching inspirational story of how two
hopeless no-talent losers find each other in a cruel world,
and through the strength of their deep bond are empowered
to become…two hopeless no-talent losers. The film is set in
Hope Springs, CA (famous home of the world's largest parking
lot), where we meet Destiny Rutt (Stephanie Orff) a pathological
liar and last place shoe-in for the first annual Miss Hope
Springs Pageant. When Destiny meets Scott Bushey - a gay drifter
with only two ambitions: to make it big as the world's first
white HIV-positive rap star "T-Cell", AND to get DirecTV -
the two make fast friends and determine "to take this town
of outdated gay guys by storm!" FAG HAG is a gay-punk, underground
trash cinema classic! From TROMA…of course!
