(Cannes) May 12, 2000 - Troma Entertainment president and
co-founder Lloyd Kaufman arrived at the 53rd Cannes International
Film Festival today to participate in Troma's "All the Love
You Cannes" campaign. Kaufman looks forward to an especially
busy festival this year, which will include production on a
short film for international television studio Canal+.
Canal+ is known throughout the world for its
groundbreaking programming. This year, they have decided to
not just break the ground but defile it by asking Lloyd Kaufman
and the Troma Team to create a short film to be shown on Canal+
in conjunction with a series of Troma movies. "I am extremely
honored to be asked to do this by Canal+," says Kaufman. "Canal+
has always been very supportive of Troma and I am thrilled to
be able to repay them with all the gore and dismembered body
parts they so richly deserve."
Kaufman and the Troma Team will also host a
very special cocktail party from their base of operations at
the Troma Love Chapel (Suites 264 & 265 of the Carlton Hotel).
This intimate event will feature the world premiere of selected
scenes from Kaufman's latest work, the work-in-progress Citizen
Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Part 4. The first Toxie film in over
a decade, Citizen Toxie finds Troma's flagship character suffering
from a severe identity crisis when he faces off against his
evil self, the Noxious Offender. The film features cameo appearances
by a variety of stars, including Julie Strain, Lemmy from Motorhead,
and Hank the Angry Dwarf.
In addition to the sneak preview of Citizen
Toxie, Troma will also screen Kaufman's current film, Terror
Firmer. Now in theatrical release, Terror Firmer caused Kevin
Eastman, publisher of Heavy Metal, to proclaim, "Lloyd Kaufman
is a genius! The world no longer has to wonder what would happen
if Robert Altman, The Farrelly Bros, and Dario Argento teamed
up to direct a film! (Besides, it wouldn't turn out as good
as this!) The Troma Team has bested their best with Terror Firmer,
and every time I watch it, I leave screaming: 'Let's go make
some ART!'"
