ANGEL NEGRO PREMIERES AT CANNES TODAY!
TROMA PRESENTS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL
SOUTH AMERICAN HORROR FILM OF 2001
Cannes, May 22nd- Today at Cannes,
Troma Entertainment proudly presents Angel Negro, a masterpiece
in terror. In the spirit of Hitchcock, Carpenter
and Raimi, Angel Negro will bring you into a
nightmare from which you may never awaken.
A tragic accident leads to the disturbing disappearance of
a ravishing young girl named Angel Cruz. This mysterious manifestation
occurs on the evening of Angel’s high school graduation. Did
Angel Cruz vanish, or did she die? Ten years later, the bodies
of Angel Cruz’ former classmates begin showing up....dead....very
dead! Is the ghost of Angel Cruz committing these murders, or
has her spirit possessed some one still living?
One of Angel’s former classmates, Gabriel
(Alvaro Morales), now a handsome forensic doctor, starts to investigate
what is happening. He hopes to save himself and warn the rest
of his former classmates. Will Gabriel uncover the truth of the
Black Angel….or will he die trying? Can he stop loving her?
The brilliant anti-dictatorship symbolism combined with the
frightening terror has rendered Angel Negro a major
milestone for independent filmmaking around the world. The first
feature length horror movie from Chile, a country formerly unable
to produce such films due to the Pinochet dictatorship, Angel
Negro has received tremendous critical acclaim. It was South
America’s huge box office success of the year 2000. A major suspense
film with a brilliant cast, stylish cinematography, and directed
by a bright new talent from South America, Jorge Olguin,
Angel Negro has been an official selection at numerous prestigious
film festivals around the world, including Sitges (Spain), Fantasia
(Canada), Fantasporto (Portugal), and the Fantafestival (Rome).
Perversely romantic and somatically terrifying,
Angel Negro is a horror movie you will never forget.
