“MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MOVIE!” TO BE RELEASED BY ST. MARTIN’S PRESS IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS 2002

Worldwide rights for Troma President Lloyd Kaufman’s second book are available in Cannes!

Cannes, May 15th- Today at Cannes, St. Martin’s Press announced that Lloyd Kaufman, president of Troma Entertainment and creator of the Toxic Avenger, has completed Make Your Own Damn Movie!, the follow-up to Kaufman’s best-selling autobiography All I Need To Know About Filmmaking I Learned From The Toxic Avenger. The book will be in stores across the US this Christmas, in time for holiday shopping. St. Martin’s also announced that worldwide rights are available for the book and can be discussed in Troma’s Riviera Sales Booth (#F13).

Make Your Own Damn Movie! will feature a Preface by Trey Parker (South Park, Cannibal: The Musical). When asked how the new book would differ from the first, Kaufman said, “I’m constantly being asked how to raise money for an independent movie, how to get the most production value for what little money you do have, and what the best way is to get people to see your finished movie.  This book will answer these questions.  I want to give young filmmakers a step-by-step guide to making low-budget independent movies so that they can use what works for us and learn from our mistakes…although in Tromaville, we don’t call them mistakes.  They’re impromptu script deviations.”

Bringing cohesion to Kaufman’s drunken ramblings are co-writers Adam Jahnke and Trent Haaga.  Jahnke was head writer for Troma’s hit Channel 4 UK series “Troma’s Edge TV”.  Haaga first gained attention as one of the stars of Troma’s Terror Firmer.  Subsequently, he has hosted “Troma’s Edge TV” and written the screenplay for Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV, which received its world premiere to rave reviews at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival.

Kaufman’s previous book, All I Need To Know About Filmmaking I Learned From The Toxic Avenger written with James Gunn, recently entered its 3rd printing through Penguin/Putnam and inspired Kaufman’s critically acclaimed movie Terror Firmer.  Gunn has gone on to pen the novel The Toy Collector and the screenplay for the upcoming live-action movie Scooby-Doo. Gunn also provides a forward for Make Your Own Damn Movie!.

In addition to book writing and filmmaking, Kaufman and his partner Michael Herz run Troma Entertainment, the oldest independent movie studio in the world. Troma owns a library of over 900 titles, including The Toxic Avenger series, Class of Nuke Em’ High, Tromeo and Juliet and Terror Firmer. Also, the early efforts of many mainstream stars such as Vincent D’onofrio, Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Costner, Robert DeNiro, Billy Bob Thornton and Trey Parker can be found in Troma’s films.
