The following Troma titles will be screening at the Cannes Film Festival:

THE RUINING

Filmed over ten years, The Ruining - directed by Chris Burgard - succeeds in echoing the grime and grit of late 70's and early 80's horror cinema. Beyond any conventional explanation for what it is, you will be stunned when you witness two LA couples wander into a bizarre mountain community where eggs are acid and meat is tainted. It can't be explained but must be watched!

Screening: Thursday - May 13, 2004 - PALAIS F - 3:30 PM

WORLD PREMIERE!

TRAILER TOWN

Actor/Director Giuseppe Andrews has appeared in a wide range of feature films, ranging from the blockbuster Independence Day, to the controversial American History X, as well as Detroit Rock City or the recent hit Cabin Fever. Director of several shorts including “Dribble,” winner of the 2004 Kodak/Tromadance True Independent Soul Award, Andrews is on his way to become the next John Waters. Trailer Town is his first long-feature.

TRAILER TOWN is a sexual interpretation of inner violence about out of work comedians in a trailer park run by a soap opera star. The old comedians can't work due to addiction problems. They are angry and try to come up with the filthiest, most offensive routines they can in an effort to strike out at mainstream society, with their only audience being themselves. When Bill, the oldest of the two comedians, receives an eviction notice for having too many wild parties, he takes to his trailer roof with a rifle and declares that he is a victim of an aluminum holocaust.

SAMUEL FULLER'S SHARK

Thirty-fifth anniversary screening of Sam Fuller's classic ocean adventure drama, starring Burt Reynolds and Barry Sullivan.

Samuel Fuller (1911-1997) was a controversial figure in American cinema. He also wrote most of the screenplays of his films. Fuller seemingly opposed everything that he saw threatening the traditional American way of life and was a highly acclaimed auteur in Europe. He was one of the most uncompromising forces in American independent cinema and has influenced such filmmakers as Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Jim Jarmusch, and Lloyd Kaufman. Of all his films, Shark has perhaps been the most difficult to see.

In Shark (1969), American gun smuggler Burt Reynolds, stranded in a tiny seaport in Sudan, joins the crew of a marine biologist's boat. He soon discovers the boat's owner and his wife are trying to retrieve gold bullion that lies deep in shark-infested waters. This masterpiece of an action movie almost did not get completed because of on-location tragedy: a Mexican stunt diver really was killed by a shark.

Sscreening: Friday May 21, 2004 - PALAIS G - 12:00 PM
